The NY Portuguese Short Film Festival took place in New York as well as in Lisbon on June 2 and 3, 2011. This event was hosted by Arte Institute at the Anthology Film Archives, Union Square Park and Carlos Paredes Theater.
It was the first time that such an event happened in the United States involving Portuguese cinema, connecting New York and Lisbon at the same moment.
The two days Festival consisted of the screening of twenty short films produced in Portugal and abroad by Portuguese citizens.
After the sucess of the NY Portuguese Short Film Festival in New York and Lisbon, Arte Institute presented the Festival in Rio de Janeiro, at Cacilda Becker Theater on December 9-10, 2011 .
Mission
The Mission of the NY Portuguese Short Film Festival is to bring Portuguese culture to the big screen and showcase films with a uniquely Portuguese perspective. Our intent is to show a modern Portugal full of ideas that continuously reinvents itself.
Objectives
The NY Portuguese Short Film Festival intends to promote Portuguese cinema produced in Portugal and abroad.
All short films presented at the festival were written and directed by Portuguese. By screening the work of new filmmakers it is indeed our goal to further develop the interest for their projects on a national and international level.
