In the context of José Saramago's week, Arte Institute is organizing a special night of Portuguese and Spanish short films.
"Catarina e os Outros" (Catarina and the Others) by director André Badalo will be screened at Portuguese and Spanish Short Films Screening at Anthology Film Archives, Oct. 27, 10 pm.
The Portuguese short films are curated by Arte Institute and the Spanish short films are curated by Telegraph21.

Inconsequently, in the big city, adults are moved by desire...
André Badalo was born in a small Portuguese fisherman’s village called Fuzeta, in 1981. He studied Cinema, specializing in Directing and Cinematography, at the Lisbon Superior Theatre and Film School and went on to complete his film studies at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles.
His first short film, "História de papel" starring Lúcia Moniz and Diogo Infante, was shown at several International Film Festivals and won the award for best film at the Varsovia International Film Festival.
His second short film, “Shoot Me” starring Maria João Bastos, Ivo Canelas and Philippe Leroux, was shown at several International Film Festivals and won the Audience Award for best short film (15-30min) at the Milan International Film Festival 2010, and an Honorable Mention at the Los Angeles Movie Awards 2010.
"Shoot Me" was released by Columbia TriStar Warner at movie theaters in Portugal, Angola, Cabo Verde, Moçambique and S Tomé e Principe with director Ben Affleck’s feature “The Town”.
"Catarina and the others", his third short film, with: Victoria Guerra, Maria João Bastos, Philippe Leroux, Rui Porto Nunes, Tiago Aldeia, Pedro Carvalho, Cândido Ferreira, Luis Garcia e Arminda Badalo, won the Excellence Award at the Los Angeles Movie Awards 2011.
André, is actually at post-production of two new short-films:
"Red Scarf" with: Paulo Pires, Joaquim Monchique, Rita Salema, João Perry e Pedro Carvalho.
"Yakun" with: Victoria Guerra, Rui Porto Nunes, Jessica Athayde e João Manzarra.
